Alex Cloutier
CEO Award Winner 2023
Alex Cloutier has been a team member at Corbin Advisors since 2016 and continues to expand on his career. Devin Davis, Head of Marketing and Communications, sat down with Alex to learn more about his experience at Corbin and what continues to inspire him.
Can you walk me through your roles and responsibilities?
Today I manage several key areas within our Business Development team, focusing primarily on the sales operations, including planning, data and analytics, and process optimization. From a planning perspective, I focus on assessing our growth goals and developing the key initiatives that are going to help us achieve those goals. Given that we are a data and research firm, I spend a fair amount of time analyzing new growth opportunities, reviewing the effectiveness of various sales programs, and ensuring we’re targeting potential clients with the right solutions. Lastly, I’m constantly looking to see how we can re-engineer processes with our technology to create scale for our business and drive improved change and efficiency. As a team, we’re always looking for ways to institutionalize the way we operate and ensure that we’re innovating the use of technology.
What do you love most about the work you do at Corbin Advisors?
The people at Corbin are the best in the industry and provide a collegial environment that’s built on collaboration, camaraderie, and honesty. Each team member that I have the opportunity to work with – from the senior leadership team, to finance, to marketing, to the business practices – all show up every day with the same focus: a commitment to our clients success by supporting outperformance. In addition, we take an incredible amount of pride in giving back to the communities that we live and work in. Through our Love, Corbin initiatives, I’ve had the opportunity to work with Habitat for Humanity, helping to clean up and build houses in our local communities.
In 2023, you were recognized with the CEO Award for consistently delivering above expectations. What inspires you?
Well, first I have to say how honored (and surprised!) I am. To be recognized by our CEO, Rebecca Corbin, was pretty amazing. The team here at Corbin is passionate about serving our clients and ensuring we deliver above their expectations. That passion is contagious. I continue to remain motivated working in partnership with the entire team.
What's the best advice you can give to someone who is just starting their career or looking at Corbin Advisors for their first career opportunity?
College prepares you for certain things as you start your career, however, there are some recommendations I would give recent graduates joining a firm such as Corbin. First, as a new analyst, you shouldn’t be afraid to ask questions. Absorb as much information as possible from the leaders and team members that you work with. There is an incredible amount of intellectual property that you can learn from. Second, take the time to get to know people outside of your immediate team. Find a mentor who can help you with decisions throughout your career. Third, don’t be afraid to work outside your comfort zone and always raise your hand for additional responsibilities. The payback is usually immense relative to the extra work.
