Amy Garbowicz has been a team member at Corbin Advisors since 2021. Devin Davis, Head of Marketing and Communications, sat down with Amy to learn more about her experience at Corbin and what continues to inspire her.
Can you walk me through your roles and responsibilities?
I have a few different roles within the organization. First, I am an advisor in our IR Advisory practice, serving as lead for several key clients across industry sectors and market caps. In a typical day, I advise on strategic communications, investor relations matters, investor days, and various questions and requests from clients. In addition, I head our special situations practice which encompasses strategy and financial communications, generally around M&A, divestitures, leadership transitions, activism, and IPOs. Lastly, I serve as a mentor and coach to several team members who are early in their careers to help foster their development and growth.
What do you love most about the work you do at Corbin Advisors?
There are so many things! First, I really enjoy the teamwork aspect of the culture here at Corbin. We truly work as a team and I think what is something very unique to Corbin is that it is a very collaborative environment. Second, I truly enjoy the sophistication level of the work, with each day bringing new challenges to tackle and experience to gain. Lastly, we see a large variety of client work, which keeps it interesting and evolving.
In 2023, you were recognized with The Ultimate Team Player Award for consistently delivering above expectations. What inspires you?
I have been really fortunate throughout my career to have had some amazing mentors and coaches who have helped me along the way. I’ve recognized how beneficial that has been for me, which has inspired me and driven my passion for helping others looking to grow their careers. I’m passionate with the team members that I have the opportunity to work with, always looking for new ways of solving our client’s business challenges.
What's the best advice you can give to someone who is just starting their career or looking at Corbin Advisors for their first career opportunity?
I would say that it is important early on in your career to get broad exposure to different opportunities. When first starting out in my career, I was told that you want to be a “generalist” and not a specialist. It has allowed me the opportunity to learn as much as I can about different situations, different sectors, and various ways of communicating. The other thing I would emphasize is that you shouldn’t be afraid to ask for help, raise your hand for additional information, and use your resources to the fullest extent – including leveraging all your colleagues.
